Employees, students encouraged to review university reporting resources
The Purdue community should be aware of available reporting resources for emergency and nonemergency situations and when each should be used.
EMERGENCY REPORTING
In emergency situations, faculty, staff and students should call 911.
In cases of sexual assault, dating violence, domestic violence or stalking, students who would like to speak with a crisis counselor should call the Center for Advocacy, Response & Education’s (CARE) 24-hour confidential hotline at 765-495-CARE (2273).
NONEMERGENCY REPORTING
Local reporting options
Faculty, staff and students on Purdue’s West Lafayette, Northwest and Fort Wayne campuses have access to various reporting avenues, including the Office of the Dean of Students, Environmental Health and Public Safety, Human Resources, Information Technology and Office of Institutional Equity. The campus community is encouraged to review these local resources using the Purdue Hotline’s reporting options index. These resources are only monitored during business hours.
Purdue Hotline
Faculty, staff and students systemwide can use the Purdue Hotline to confidentially report possible unethical or illegal behavior via internet or telephone. The hotline is designed to help identify instances of noncompliance with policies, laws and regulations and is one of the chief tools Purdue uses to detect and prevent fraud systemwide.
Examples of issues that individuals can raise through the hotline include but are not limited to:
- Conflicts of interest.
- Workplace misconduct.
- Academic or research misconduct.
- Environmental health and safety concerns.
- Harassment or discrimination.
- Theft or misappropriation of funds, supplies, property or other university resources.
- Fraud.
- Intentionally reporting inaccurate financial results.
- Accounting irregularities.
- Athletics compliance.
- Forgery or alteration of documents.
- Unauthorized alteration or manipulation of computer files.
- Improper and wasteful activity.
- Falsification of reports to management or external agencies.
- Authorization or receipt of compensation for hours not worked.
- Violations of law, contract or university policy.
After the initial report is made through EthicsPoint, Purdue’s third-party hotline provider, the Internal Audit Office will either investigate the issue or forward the information to the appropriate office. Users have the option to file an anonymous claim, but due to the nature of some claims, the university may be limited in actions it can take in response to such reports.
The hotline is a toll-free number that is monitored only during regular business hours. It should not be used as a tool to report feedback or issues that require immediate attention.
To report a concern to the Purdue Hotline, call 866-818-2620 or visit the website.
